Westin La Paloma Employee Wins 2010 Copper Star Award

Tucson, ARIZ.- The Westin La Paloma is proud to announce Donal Drayne, longtime employee and Senior Catering Manager, was chosen as the Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau (MTCVB) 2010 Copper Star Award recipient.
"He has worked with the Westin for 30 years, 23 of which have been at La Paloma" said Bill Petrella, General Manager of the Westin La Paloma. "He exemplifies service excellence in every way; he truly personifies the warmth and hospitality that the Westin represents."
The MTCVB's Copper Star Award is presented annually to a Certified Tourism Ambassador in the community who has contributed significantly to Tucson's tourism industry. According to MTCVB, the citywide Tucson Ambassadors Program serves to increase tourism by inspiring front-line hospitality employees and volunteers to work together to turn every visitor encounter into a positive experience.
For more than two decades, Drayne has been an integral part of unforgettable events for companies, weddings and charities including the Boys & Girls Club, the Salvation Army, U of A Athletics and the American Cancer Society's Jubilee Gala.
"Having lived in Tucson for 37 years, I have had the honor and pleasure of working with Donal Drayne in my capacity as a professional volunteer, as General Chairman of Angel Charity for Children, Inc., and Boys and Girls Clubs Auction Chair to name a few organizations," said Laurie Wetterschneider. "He is the most creative, organized and positive person that I have ever dealt with. Donal Drane is as he himself puts life, 'Grande'!"
Drayne, originally from Ireland, is known for his modesty, friendliness and for giving mini-history lessons to out-of-town guests.
"When I moved here I studied at the Arizona Historical Society," said Drayne. "In moving somewhere new, it's very important to get to know the community and get to know the people. Anywhere you look in Tucson...it's just so different than the other 49 states. I'm so happy to be here. I've made a lot of friends."
The MTCVB will present Drayne with his award on Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 5pm to 7pm at the JW Marriot Star Pass.
